Before we get started on the guide to adding friends on the Nintendo Switch 2, there are some things you need to do. First of all, update your Switch to the latest version. Nintendo has released a big Day 1 update for the new Switch, which must be installed for the guide to work correctly. Secondly, you must add your Nintendo Account to your new handheld. You can either use your existing Switch account or create a new one.

Once your account is added, there are a couple of ways you can add friends. You can add them by searching their Friend Code, using the smartphone Switch app, accepting friend requests, and more.

To add them, you will need to visit your Profile by selecting the profile picture that’s located at the top-left corner of the Switch 2’s homescreen. On the Profile page, you must tap on the Add Friend option to bring up the friend system page. This is where all the different options for adding friends will be. From here, the guide will differ for all the different modes shown below:

Friend Requests Received

This section includes all the friend requests others have sent you after getting your Friend code. If you select the Accept button, then that friend will be added to your friend list.

Search Using Friend Code

Once you receive Friend Codes from your friends, you must select this option. You must enter the friend codes and send them a friend request one by one. These requests will end up in the Friend Requests Received section on your friends’ Switch 2.

Search For Users You’ve Played With

Suppose you played with some random users in an online game. You can send them a friend request using this option. The last few users you have played with will show up in this section.

Search For Local Users

This option allows you to add friends who are either with you now or live close by. In this section, you will see four symbols: Heart, Diamond, Club, and Spade. Once you select any symbol, you will send an invitation to nearby users. They will need to accept the invitation and select the same symbol. Then that user will be added to your friend list.

Add Friends Using the Smartphone App

Lastly, you can add a friend using the mobile app. You can find the Nintendo Switch app on the App Store or the Play Store. You can add friends in the app using either the Friend Code or via QR Code that will be available on your friend’s smartphone app.

This concludes all the ways you can add friends to your new Nintendo Switch 2. Searching for your friends using their Friend Code is the easiest way to send them friend requests.
