Cynthia’s Garchomp ex is one of the strongest cards of the Destined Rivals expansion. While it is a Stage 2 card, meaning it will need a few turns before it can take the field, its massive HP stat and two decent moves are enough to make it one of the more popular cards of this set. A deck making this card as its core attacker will need support from other Cynthia cards that were part of this expansion. This includes Pokemon like Cynthia’s Roserade and Tools like Cynthia’s Power Weight.

Pokemon TCG Best Cynthia’s Garchomp Ex Deck Guide Overview

Cynthia’s Garchomp ex is the main attacker of this deck, with the other cards supporting it. Cynthia’s Roserade boosts its attack by 30 while the Pokemon Tool Cynthia’s Power Weight gives its HP a boost by 70. With proper application, players should be able to deal massive damage over a few turns.

However, this deck has a few flaws. Besides supporting Pokemon like Munkidori and Budew, all other Pokemon cards need to evolve at least once to reach their full potential. This could leave players vulnerable if they end up drawing a bad hand early on, leaving them scrambling to recover later on.

How To Play This Best Cynthia’s Garchomp Ex Deck in Pokemon TCG Destined Rivals

Ideal Hand

Players would like a hand with multiple Basic Pokemon, with 2 Cynthia’s Gible, 1 Cynthia’s Roselia, and 1 Munkidori. Getting too many Trainers on the first turn will not be too much help.

This is the strategy involved with this deck:

  • Cynthia’s Garchomp ex needs to get in the Active Spot and stay there as long as it can. With its first move Corkscrew Dive it deals 100 damage for only a single Basic Fighting Energy and lets players draw cards until they have six cards in their hands, which is great for momentum. For two Basic Fighting Energy, it deals a whopping 260 damage with Draconic Buster. However, this requires all Energy attached to this card to be discarded.
  • The Pokemon on the Bench are only there to support Garchomp. Cynthia’s Roserade gives it an attack boost, while Munkidori can heal off some of the damage that Garchomp takes over the course of the game as long as it has a Basic Darkness Energy attached. Even Cynthia’s Gabite can be used to look for other Cynthia’s Pokemon.
  • Cynthia’s Power Weight should be equipped as soon as possible to increase Garchomp’s HP.

Other cards involved in the deck include:

  • Toedscruel prevents any of the opponents’ discarded cards from being used.
  • Techincal Machine: Evolution can be used to evolve multiple Pokemon at once.

Best Matchups

Joltik Box decks struggle against this deck (Image via TPC)

This deck works well against Electric decks like Joltik Box, which have been thriving in the current Pokemon TCG meta. This is because these decks have the bulk to withstand a few hits and can deal massive super-effective damage later on in the game.

The big issue with this deck is the fact that Cynthia’s Garchomp ex is effectively the sole attacker. As a Stage 2 mon, it needs time to set up. Additionally, despite the low Energy costs of its moves, the fact that it needs to discard them for its 2nd move Draconic Buster means an over-reliance on Item cards like Super Rod and Night Stretcher.

Grass-type decks give this deck the most trouble.

Best Cynthia’s Garchomp Ex Deck Guide in Pokemon TCG Destined Rivals: Tips and Tricks

  • Use Cynthia’s Gabite ability to get Cynthia’s Garchomp ex quickly to evolve it.
  • Try to get three Munkidori with one Basic Darkness Energy attached on the Bench (the other two cards should be Cynthia’s Roserade and Toedscruel). This will increase the healing level of Cynthia’s Garchomp ex.
