Arrakis is a planet feared across the galaxy in the Dune universe. In the opening chapters of the iconic novel, the planet is portrayed almost like a living, antagonistic entity. It is harsh, unforgiving, and so deadly that the Duke signed his death warrant by going there. The heat is relentless, dehydration is a constant threat, and if those don’t kill you, a sandworm will.

Dune Awakening throws you into the deep end of the iconic sand planet, letting you fend for yourself. The game incorporates all of the harsh elements the planet is notorious for, but the one element that has been recreated with accuracy is the sandworms. Sandworms are death in Dune Awakening. They stalk the underground of the sand planet, jutting out of the ground to swallow those unfortunate enough to be in their way. They are giant killing machines that you simply can’t kill.

Dealing with sandworms is a constant hassle in the game. Once they sprout out, they’ll stalk you relentlessly, halting any progress you were hoping to make. If you’re stuck dealing with a sandworm but don’t know how to proceed, we’re here to help.

The first and best way to deal with sandworms is not to deal with them at all. Prevention is better than a cure, and you can avoid sandworms by sticking close to rocky terrain in the game. The worms mostly spawn in open fields of sand, so you can avoid open sand to stay clear of the worms. Using vehicles such as the Ornithopter will keep you high above ground, clear of the worms.

Now, avoiding sand is not always possible. In case you’re in an open field and a sandworm juts out of the ground, you can distract it using vibrations on other sides. You’ll need other players for this, however. If you’re solo or if your teammates are far away, the best way to deal with the sandworm is to cross over to another region. The map in Dune Awakening has several regions split by borders. If you cross any border, the sandworm will de-aggro, leaving you safe.
