Everything you need to know about Mastery in Doom The Dark Ages, including the best method to obtain it for all the weapons in the game.

Getting the Weapon Mastery for all of Doom Slayer’s armaments is easily the toughest challenge in Doom The Dark Ages. The Weapon Mastery in the latest Doom title works pretty much the same as Doom Eternal. Essentially, once you unlock all the upgrades for a weapon, you get access to its Mastery Milestone.
To unlock the Mastery for any given weapon, you need to complete the specified “Mastery Challenge,” which ranges from fairly simple (as in the case of the Combat and Super Shotguns) or quite challenging (as in the case of the Impaler or the Shredder). Furthermore, unlocking a Weapon Mastery usually means you will have to restrict yourself to using a specific armament for the entire duration of said milestone.
Although you can organically unlock Weapon Mastery by simply playing through the campaign, there is a way to easily “farm” it via specific difficulty settings and mission replay. Here’s everything you need to know about Weapon Mastery in Doom The Dark Ages.
What Is Weapon Mastery In Doom The Dark Ages?

Weapon Mastery is essentially an additional milestone that you can unlock for every single weapon in Doom The Dark Ages. That said, Mastery doesn’t unlock any gameplay-related perks for a weapon. However, unlocking a weapon’s Mastery does grant you a special weapon skin — Conqueror. Furthermore, unlocking Weapon Mastery is required for the Platinum Trophy as well.
Weapon Mastery is only available once you unlock all the upgrades for a weapon. Additionally, Mastery is only available for Doom Slayer’s firearms, and not for the Melee Weapons, i.e., Shield Saw, Power Gauntlet, Flail, and Dreadmace. Lastly, Weapon Mastery isn’t tied to any particular difficulty preset either.
You can unlock Mastery for all weapons in any difficulty, even in the Aspiring Slayer preset. Weapon Mastery is one of the best ways that the game encourages replayability. The system basically requires you to replay missions and also engage with the difficulty modifiers. It’s also possible to unlock Mastery for all weapons in a single playthrough, without having to replay missions.
Best Method To Farm Weapon Mastery
You can essentially use Doom The Dark Ages’ mission replay as well as difficulty modifiers to easily farm Mastery for weapons. The Mastery farming method comes courtesy of YouTube content creator Skull Busters. Basically, you need to progress through the main campaign until the Resurrection main story mission. After that, you can replay the mission’s opening section to easily get Mastery for all weapons, albeit with some modifications.
Here’s a step-by-step guide for Master farming:
- Complete Resurrection on any difficulty preset.
- Head back to the chapter selection screen and replay Resurrection with some difficulty modifiers.
- Set the difficulty to Aspiring Slayer or Hurt Me Plenty, and reduce Enemy Damage to 50%. Do not change any other difficulty-related setting.
- Replay the first major encounter past the Sentinel Shrine.
- Make sure to pin the Mastery Challenge to keep track of your progress.
This method works for all Mastery Challenges in the game. You can also do this method on the Ultra-Violence preset, but keeping the difficulty on Aspiring Slayer makes it much easier.
