Shadow Crystals are secret items found in each Chapter of Deltarune. Discover their potential uses and where to locate them.
Shadow Crystals are rare and mysterious items in Deltarune that you can collect by defeating secret bosses in each chapter. Although they do not have a well-defined purpose yet, they are tied to the game’s completion and a theorized secret ending. The shopkeeper Seam says that he can make something using five Shadow Crystals, but only four can be found so far. Here’s how to obtain each Shadow Crystal in Deltarune.
How To Get All Shadow Crystals in Deltarune
Chapter 1 Shadow Crystal: Jevil
To find Jevil, you must collect three Broken Keys in Chapter 1. Seam provides Broken Key A after Kris talks about Jevil. He also mentions a clue to the next key’s location, saying, “Walk where the stars don’t shine.”
Broken Key B is located on the southeast side of the Scissor Dancers in the Forest. Access the chest by taking the dark path on the southwest side of the area.
To find Broken Key C, complete the spade and diamond puzzle in the Field before the Great Board. Head through the suits in the following order to complete the puzzle: Diamond, Heart, Club, Spade.
Once you have recovered all three Broken Keys, Malius will combine them into a Door Key. Head to Jevil’s cell and use the key to unlock the door. This will begin the secret boss fight for Chapter 1. Defeat Jevil to obtain a Shadow Crystal and a powerful item.

Chapter 2 Shadow Crystal: Spamton NEO
To fight the secret boss in Chapter 2, you have to first buy the KeyGen from Spampton in Cyber City. Then, head to the Queen’s Mansion and enter the basement from the room filled with the Queen’s statues. Inside, you will find an EmptyDisk. Bring the EmptyDisk to Spamton and he will transform into the secret boss, Spamton NEO. Defeat him to receive a Shadow Crystal.
Chapter 3 Shadow Crystal: Roaring Knight
The Roaring Knight is a boss you will encounter at the end of Chapter 3 in Deltarune. To have a reasonable chance of defeating him, you will need to first find the Shadow Mantle. Achieve S Rank in each of Tenna’s minigames and defeat the Shadow Mantle secret boss to unlock the item. Then, defeat the Roaring Knight to get the third Shadow Crystal.
Chapter 4 Shadow Crystal: Gerson
The fourth Shadow Crystal rests with the Chapter 4 secret boss, Gerson. To start the boss fight, you will first have to solve the Piano Puzzle and find the Magic Axe. To do this, backtrack and collect three musical sheets before playing their sequences on the golden piano atop the bookshelves. A secret passageway will open up in Gerson’s office. Head through it to start the boss fight. Once you win, Gerson will hand over the axe and a Shadow Crystal.
