Here’s what you need to know about Death Stranding 2’s PlayStation exclusivity and whether it will arrive on other platforms.

When Death Stranding 2: On the Beach was announced, fans were quick to wonder if it would be a PlayStation exclusive game like the original title. And wouldn’t you know it? It’s confirmed to be exclusive to PS5 consoles on release day.
Kojima Productions’ ambitious sequel to the genre-defying original once again promises a unique blend of narrative and exploration. On top of that, we can probably expect philosophical undertones, something the original also had.
With that said, here is what you need to know about the PlayStation exclusivity of Death Stranding 2. We’ll also be discussing what this means to players on other platforms like Xbox and PC.

Why Is Death Stranding 2 a PlayStation Exclusive Game?

Currently, Death Stranding 2 is set to release exclusively on PS5 on June 26, 2025. Unfortunately, there is no confirmation if the title will be released on other platforms in the future. A possible reason is that Sony is involved with the production of this title as the publisher. Most likely, one of the agreements is that this will be a timed exclusivity, similar to the original game.
The original Death Stranding launched as a PS4 exclusive. However, with the help of the publisher 505 Games, the game saw a PC release in July 2020. Following this, the game was ported to Xbox Series X/S, five years later.
With that said, if the formula is similar, it’s almost guaranteed that Death Stranding 2 will be added on other platforms in the future.

Is Death Stranding Coming on Xbox at Launch?

No, Death Stranding will release as a PS5-exclusive title. This means it will not be available for other platforms, including Xbox consoles. However, it doesn’t have to be a permanent exclusivity.
The PC and Xbox Series X/S port of the original was well-received by fans. Given this success, there is a strong possibility that Death Stranding 2 will follow a similar path. We might even see another Director’s Cut version with some new content or quality of life changes added. For now, we’ll just have to keep our eyes peeled for more confirmation from Kojima Productions.
