Black Myth Wukong was easily the biggest release of 2023, which was quite surprising considering it was the very first foray of developer Game Science into the Triple-A industry. The Xbox Series X|S version of Black Myth Wukong is scheduled to arrive on August 20, 2025. This puts the Xbox release date exactly a year after the PS5 and PC versions. The PS5 and PC versions of the game were released on the same date, albeit last year. While Game Science did not provide any concrete reasons for the year-long delay, they did mention needing additional time for “optimizations.”
Some fans theorized that the game was being held back by the Xbox Series S. This shouldn’t be surprising, considering even the PS5 version of the game often struggles to maintain a stable frame rate.
In fact, Black Myth Wukong’s Performance Mode on the PS5 uses frame generation to hit the 60 fps target. This isn’t ideal, given the game’s base frame rate is well below the 40 fps VRR range. However, since its release, Game Science has launched several updates that have somewhat stabilized the frame rate on the PS5. The game has also improved a lot on PC, which should translate quite well to the Xbox version. Furthermore, Black Myth Wukong is also on sale for the very first time.

When Can You Pre-Order Black Myth Wukong on Xbox Series X|S?
Pre-orders for the Xbox Series X|S version of Black Myth Wukong will go live on June 18, 2025. The game will also go on sale across all platforms at the same time. You can grab Black Myth Wukong on all platforms, including Xbox Series X|S, at a discount starting June 18. The sale will be live until July 11, 2025. During this time, the game will be available to purchase at $47.99 for the Standard Edition and $57.99 for the Deluxe Edition. Note that the discount applies to the Xbox Series X|S versions as well, but only until July 11.
